Todd Oldham asked:

Using a mix of neutrals, honey-colored woods, and pops of wave-crested blues, the Amalfi Coast is the inspiration for the color palette of my new hotel project, The Fairfax in South Beach. It’s beachy and easy, but with a certain elegance.

HTML clipboardSince the dawn of recorded history man has been searching diligently for something greater outside of themselves to connect with and to aspire to. The only quest that may be far older than man’s quest for fire is this quest for inspiration. People are turning to religion in record numbers as they search for inspiration, and record numbers of new religions are being formed every year. We recently elected a president on a tide of hope for a new tomorrow thanks in large part to his ability to tap this need in a nation of people that are starved for inspirational leadership.

Unfortunately, we are always left to come back to the deep truth that the only constant in our lives is the experience of ourselves and of the lives that we are inventing, and our sources of inspiration will always leave us. At least, that is, if we rely on the world outside of ourselves to provide them.

One of the things that I’m challenging myself with is becoming a source of inspiration to the people around me. I would say it’s the ultimate challenge. To become a source of inspiration means that not only do I need to be conscious of what inspires others, I’ll need to keep myself inspired in order to maintain that commitment for any meaningful length of time.

Inspiration is a cheap source of energy. I’ve tried it the other way and I can promise you that it’s just a matter of time before any source of energy that doesn’t recharge your batteries the way that inspiration does will eventually dry up. It’s a given.

I guess I’m lucky that I appreciate words, their subtle shades of meaning and a beautifully crafted turn of phrase, and I’ve been collecting famous and inspirational quotes since I was a kid. I’ve been working on making them available to people at http://www.famous-quotes-and-inspirational-quotes.com for what are quite frankly selfish reasons.

I love web design and development – it’s a source of joy and inspiration for me in and of itself – so working on the site is a cheap and sustainable way for me to be inspiring myself as I constantly search for new and inspirational ideas to share on the site.

Almost every time I work on the site I discover a quote that inspires me.

It’s one of the ways that I’m working at being my own source of inspiration.

As a speaker and a trainer I also appreciate how it helps me to easily find inspirational quotes and ideas to share during my presentations, workshops or trainings.

So – I’m not suggesting that you do the same thing towards being your own source of inspiration, but I am suggesting that you find at least one way that is that good of a fit for yourself as that way is for me. I don’t know what that will be for you and it may take a bit of soul searching as well as some trial and error for you to discover it for yourself. One thing I can promise you is that it will be well worth your time and effort: I am living proof!

Your partner in saying “YES!” passionately to life,
